If you have USBc (with USB3.1 gen2), then. In this SSD product category I would recommend the SanDisk. I have compared the SanDisk Extreme to comparable Samsung models and I have used both. ![]() If your Mac has the slower USB 3 ports, save your money and buy the less expensive SanDisk Extreme. Keep in mind that Thunderbolt is going to cost a premium over USB 3. That was late last year so things may have changed since then. The last I checked, Thunderbolt 3 is the only option as there were not any TB4 enclosures. If you really need/want the much faster speed, going Thunderbolt is the way to go. They only support USB 3.2 Gen 2, which is one lane at 10Gbps (or 1.25GB/s). ![]() ![]() The SanDisk Extreme Pro requires a computer that supports dual-lane USB 3.2 Gen 2X2, essentially using both lanes of USB-C connectors to deliver speeds up to 20Gbps (or 2.5GB/s).Īs far as I know, no Mac products support the new USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 standard. One thing to know is that there are two models of the SanDisk Extreme and the more expensive Pro requires the latest generation USB 3 port to reach its maximum claimed speed.
